 The Boulder Homeless Shelter was built to provide safe shelter, food and support services for homeless adults in Boulder, CO. Every dollar saved in energy and operating and maintenance costs lets the facilty provide help for more people.
 Hot water for showers and food services is a significant cost in this type of facility. A 20-ton Ice Kube heat pump installed with a geothermal earth loop provides domestic hot water. The heat pump was built with ozone friendly R404A refrigerant and a stainless steel double wall vented heat exchanger to provide potable hot water. The heat pump produces 346 US gallons (1,310 litres) of hot water per hour with a 70 deg. F temperature rise (39 deg. C), at a average COP of 4.6.
